keep your distance from me. don't pay no attention to me.i've got a disease... (matchbox 20)
today's soapbox topic: being true to you
don't allow people to talk you out of being who you are. don't let the expectations of your parents, your 'friends,' your significant other(s), your instructors, your mentors, or of anyone else assume the position of the ones you should have of yourself. other people will likely always think too lowly or too highly of you, so screw them all (figuratively, mind you), and be true to the beautiful being whom God has created you to be. If it means letting down everyone around you or speaking your mind when you don't want to or holding your tongue when you really, REALLY don't want to or letting go of everything you thought you knew to examine the reasons behind those thoughts, then DO IT. we get to do life on this earth one time. and the only way to live it is to identify as best you can who you are and how God wants to use you, and then to be and do those things.
let's face it, folks: people suck. and it is very possible that few, if any, in your entire lifetime, will get to know and love who any of us really are - completely outside of who they want us to be, or think we should be. we have to hold on to our identities as tightly as we can, and if you lose yourself and have to go all the way to Jupiter to find you, then do it.
i think i'm done for today. sorry for the sermonizing...
