A WTC remix of Sarah Maclachlan's "Angel," a WTC remix of Martina McBride's "Independence Day" (which, by the way, is a SONG ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE), and, according to the Jesus Seminar, some of what Christ said in Mark 23:13 can be correctly interpreted to say, "Damn you!"
Okay. I understand sympathizing with the families of those who died on September 11, 2001. What I do NOT, however, understand, is why America feels it her civic duty to capitalize on everything, including such devastating tragedies as the events of that day. Why in the world do a hundred-plus remakes of "God Bless America" (and songs like it) need to be sold in every record store in the nation? Why do patriotic cd compilations need to be sold for the low, low price of $19.95 (+ s and h, of course)? Why, oh why, did Sonic's marquis need to say "Try the Big Cheese - 1.99 - United We Stand"? Patriotism is one thing. Sympathy is one thing. Empathy is one thing. However, comibing the three with "God Bless America" and proceeding to use it as a marketig strategy and call it genuine love of country - well - that, that burns me up.
My rant is over now. (Okay, it's not really over, but I'd like to be more educated about the Jesus Seminar thing before I rant about it here.)
My last post did not get all the angry emails I thought it would. In fact, all the emails were nice.
Thanx.
However, my inbox is ready to receive both encouragement and fire from anyone who feels the need to comment on this post.
I'm out.
