I really didn't mean to disappear; it just happened. I got back to school and overwhelmed just looking at the semester that lay ahead of me that blogging kind of disappeared off my list of things to do. This entry is mostly just to share a nice story, a true one, about me.
Last week, I went to Taco Bueno for lunch. I wanted some good Mexican food and Taco Bell always leaves me hungry, so I opted for some MexiDips and Chips over a chalupa that day. I pulled up to the drive through, made my order, and drove up to the window. When I got there, they guy on the other side told me the total and held out his hand. Reaching for my purse, I asked if they took Visa, as I did not have any cash on me at all. He responded that they only take cash, and I apologized and prepared to drive away. But I stopped what I was doing when I heard him tell me to hold on a minute in semi - broken English. So I sat there for a little while, figuring maybe the manager would allow him to take my check, but when he opened the window again, he told me that he would pay for my food that day. And when I got home with my free food, I saw that there was an extra taco in my bag.
Now, having worked in fast food myself, I knew that employees got a half-off discount on food they purchase, so my meal probably cost him about a dollar and twenty-five cents, but the fact that he was willing to give that little bit of money to me so that I could eat lunch instead of going hungry (or, in my case, instead of exerting the effort required to fix my own meal) was remarkable. I will never forget it. It may well have been the best-tasting lunch I have ever had.
