Days 1 & 2

could have been better, but they also could have been worse. Yesterday was difficult. I had to send one kid to the office, and I had a LOT of talkers. Today, I started by discussing what went wrong yesterday and why we have class rules with the students. Three of my classes did better today. Two did not. Tomorrow, I will start writing referrals and giving detentions if need be. Some time before or on Friday, though, I will have another talk with the students about how I believe they are all capable of doing the work I give them, I will work with them what ever ways I can, and that I have high expectations for them. The students who meet those expectations will do the fun work, and the students who don't will be doing work that isn't as fun as well as being written up. I also called parents last night and tonight. However, tonight, one call was to tell a parent I called last night that her student had improved remarkably. There you go, faithful readers, in not too much gruesome detail: my first two days of school.

P.S.: I also happened to realize today that I have survived my first teaching experience; I never have to have that first again. Woohoo!
