is not this one. But you should be warned that I see it looming on the horizon. Those of you who know me up-close and personal-like know politics are not my favorite topic of conversation. I live in East Texas, and I tend to disagree with most folks around here when the talk goes political (usually, this is because they tie politics to Christianity, which I'm not sure is a good idea). But I digress...
I'm annoyed when people post politi-stuff on FB. But whatever, it's allowed. So if you're like me and get annoyed when folks start prattling on about politics and our culture and blahblahblah, here's fair warning: I'll share a little of my thoughts soon, and it'll be clear it's a politi-post. Feel free to ignore it, and my feelings won't be hurt.
Today, however, is a different soapbox.
People.
I do not "do" the Santa Claus/ Easter Bunny thing. I neither begrudge my child the chance to hunt for Easter eggs nor an opportunity (should it arise) to have his picture taken on Santa's lap. However, I do not set about lying to my child about the real meaning of Christmas. St. Nick is based on an amalgamation of figures based in history, legend, and pop culture. He's a nice character for folks to think about because giving is a good thing to do. But he's not Jesus, and he's not as important as Jesus, and it's wrong (in my opinion) for Christian families to go through the motions of pretending he exists so their children can believe in him.
There's a inappropriately-timed soapbox for you.
And while I'm here, I'll address this whole Easter Bunny thing too. He's fun. And it's nice to hunt for eggs and put on new clothes. (Look forward to FB pics of my boys in coordinating, super-cute outfits.) But make no mistake that Easter is still Easter without the bunny or the eggs. It's about Jesus.
In this house, that's where our focus will be. And my boys won't be missing out on some lovely, innocent, essential - ness to their childhood. They'll be learning that Jesus died for us because He loves us.
Then we'll hunt eggs.

We got a great idea from the Graffs. They celebrate the first day of spring with all of the egg hunting, baskets, etc. They do this so that Easter is celebrated as Resurrection Day. We love the idea - just wanted to share :)
Like!
Great post! Get people away from Santa and the Easter Bunny and point them to the real thing. How did we get so distracted in the first place?
