Book Face

Perhaps you have noticed how my Facebook activity has changed in recent weeks and months. I've become one of "those people." The annoying ones who clutter up your newsfeed with their constant game notifications. There are several reasons for this:

1) I have cousins who play Cityville with me. I don't get to see them every day since they live in Dallas and I'm in Longview. Playing Cityville is a way to connect with them - just a little - every time I play.

2)Facebook had gotten a little overwhelming for me. Seeing other people's (seemingly) constant vacation pics, shopping finds, new and shiny stuff, nights out on the town, etc. had begun to take its toll on my perception of reality. In reality, my family doesn't go hungry, cold, or naked. We get to have much of the stuff that we want. And that's more than most people the world over can say. Reading other people's glam-seeming statuses and check-ins was getting into my head and making me think I needed to have what they had. And I don't. So I stopped reading other people's posts as frequently as I was, stopped posting as often myself, and began playing a game where I could create my own little world - a fun, fake one, not to be confused with the real world.

3) It's fun. And kinda addictive.

So, if you're missing me on FB, just hang tight a bit. I'm sure I'll be back soon, but probably not to the extent I was before. However, I do intend to restart my blogging. So look for me here when you don't see me there. Also, I think Jon Acuff hit the nail on the head in this post: Covet 2.0.

Yeah, man, I hear ya. Thanks for that link to that post. I'd never really put into words what the social media does to my insides like that, but I do think that jealousy describes it rather well. This is why I take a couple monts off from it, a break which I am currently undertaking. Especially this time of year it's important 'cause it's tough enough to combat the winter blues, says me. Anyway, I hear ya.
