A few months after Andrew and I married, a close friend of mine did, and I had the honor of being her Matron of Honor. Being the talkative yet shy-in-front-of-a-crowd type that I am, I clammed up and passed the mic when speech-time came at her reception, and she very graciously did not disown me. Now to attempt to right (write?) that wrong:
Dear friend, I cannot express how extremely joyous I feel with you today, as you step into the future, newly married to the man I know is your best friend. You two now have the privilege of experiencing new adventures of every sort in the pleasure of each other's company. Today, your future looks rosy and bright, young and vibrant, beautiful and breathtaking - as lovely as the bride. But as your future becomes your present, the brightness may occasionally fade, giving way to clouds, and maybe even a little rain. But love and commitment are so much more than the sum of your bright days. Love remains, hopeful, kind, and unselfish, even in the midst of cloudy days - or months, or years. At times, your love may literally be the only light at the end the tunnel. But with God's help, and your hearts safely at rest in each other's care, love will prevail. I raise my glass to you two and your love today, confident that as surely as falling in love brought you together, growing in love will keep you together. Cheers to the bride and groom!
