This weekend,

we went to Dallas for BffJ's baby shower for Sophie, who should make her grand debut on or around November 3. (I'm secretly hoping she'll be born on Halloween like another bff who has a Sophie with a Halloween birthday...)

But before that shower (Sunday), we attempted idyllic family togetherness with my parents at The Magic Time Machine. Though the boys were beyond tired due to their refusal to nap all day and Daddy was tired from work and the food was only so-so, we had fun. Going out - all six of us - is a rare occurrence indeed. In fact, that might have been the first time since Rhys was a teenytiny infant.

Moral of the story: The next time you find yourself on a rapidly shrinking budget yet determined to inject fun into your weekend away from home, see if Restaurants.com can help you out with a low-price gift certificate ($3.50 for a $25 gift certificate, with $35 minimum purchase, thanks to a Googled promo code). Even if your experience isn't ideal, you'll have gotten a great deal, an atmosphere you can't necessarily experience in your hometown, and the knowledge that next time you should try someplace different.

Halloween is a great day for Sophies to be born. Costume parties every year! (At least until she gets old enough to think that's uncool, in which case her dad and I will have to uphold the tradition by ourselves.)
